HOW TO PRAY

I. What is Prayer?

Prayer is CONVERSTION with God (Jeremiah 33:3)

II. Who Can Pray And Expect Answers Or Results?

  1. Those who belong to CHRIST (1 Timothy 2:5; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12; Revelation 3:20).
  2. Those who pray in the NAME of JESUS (John 14:14).
  3. Those who have a clean HEART (Psalm 66:18; 1 John 1:9).
  4. Those who have a FORGIVING spirit (Mark 11:25).
  5. Those who come to God COMPLETE TRUST (Matthew 21:22; Hebrews 11:6; Proverbs 3:5, 6).
  6. Those who desire to do GOD’S WILL (Jeremiah 29:13; Psalm 37:4; 1 John 5:14; 15).

III. Why Pray?

  1. To GLORIFY (John 14:13).
  2. To OBEY God’s command (1 Thessalonians 5:17; Matthew 7:7 – 11).
  3. To have FELLOWSHIP with God (Proverbs 15:8; 1 John 3:1).
  4. To follow Christ’s EXAMPLE (Mark 1:35).
  5. Because prayer brings RESULTS (James 5:16; Hebrews 4:16; 1 John 3:21-23).
  6. Because prayer is necessary for spiritual GROWTH (Ephesians 3:16-17).
  7. To acknowledge our DEPENDECE on God (John 15:5; Philippians 4:13).

IV. To Whom Do We Pray?

Prayer is to the FATHER (Matthew 6:9),
in the name of the SON (John14:13),
through the HOLY SPIRIT (Romans 8:26-27).

V. When Should We Pray?

  1. ALL THE TIME (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
  2. Definite times IN PRIVATE (Daniel 6:10).
  3. Regular FELLOWSHIP TIMES, PRAYER MEETINGS, CHRISTIAN GATHERINGS, TROUBLED TIMES, MEAL TIMES, PARTING TIMES. (Acts 1:13-14; 2:41-42; 4:18-24; 31; 12:12-17; 16:25-28; 20:36-37).

VI. What Should Be Included In Prayer?

AADORATION (Psalm 103, 145-150; 89:1-14).
C –CONFESSION (1 John 1:9).
T –THANKSGIVING Thessalonians 5:18; Romans 8:28, 29).
S –SUPPLICATION (Philippians 4:6).

VII. How Can We Pray with Confidence?

Key Words:

A. BY REMAINING IN CHRIST (John 15:7).

B. BY ASKING, SEEKING AND KNOCKING (Matthew 7:7, 8).

[ASKING IS PRAYER ACCORDING TO THE REVEALED WILL OF GOD. E.G. IT IS GOD’S WILL FOR MAN TO BE SAVED, FILLED WITH THW SPIRIT, BEAR FRUIT, ETC.

SEEKING IS PRAYER ACCORDING TO THE UNREVEALED WILL OF GOD. E.G. IT IS GOD’S UNREVEALED WILL FOR SOMEONE TO GET A JOB, MARRIED, BUILD A HOUSE, ETC.

KNOCKING IS PRAYER ACCORDING TO THE RESISTED WILL OF GOD. E.G. OUR STRUGGLE AGAINST THE DEVIL].

C. BY BELIEVING IN CHRIST (Matthew 21:22).

D. BY ASKING IN CHRIST NAME (John 16:24).
