Growing Strong in Prayer

Biblical Foundation: 1 John 5:4

Introduction:

Experience God’s Power through Prayers of Faith. The diagram shows a five level Ladder of Faith which demonstrates a procedure to help our faith grow. This growth doesn’t happen all at once, but it is a process, like all other growth in our lives. The growth of our faith is determined by our view of God and our response to His nature. Each step we take brings us into deeper intimacy with Him.

1. God Is! Worship Him (Hebrews 11:6)

Our faith expands through worship. Worship is exploring and admiring God. The better you know Him, the more you can trust Him!

Hebrew 11:6- What two essential elements do we discover about God in worship?

“What are some ways in which to worship the Lord?”

Select one of “God’s Attributes”. Worship the Lord by praying over one of His attributes

which you may choose. Look up and include the Scripture reference in your praying.

2. God Can! Ask Him (Hebrews  7:25)

The more we realize that God is alive and real, the more we can believe that God is capable of doing great things.  In love, God often waits to release His supply until we ask Him.

3. God Did! Thank Him (Ephesians 1:3)

God is eternal and timeless. He has already accomplished everything He is ever going to do! God has answers prepared and waiting for all the prayers that we pray. Thank Him to prepare your heart to receive His prepared supply.

4. God Does! Obey Him Ephesians 3:20

Loving obedience to God places us in position to receive His immediate and

long-range answers. Our growth in faith is affected by our cooperation with Him.

5. God Will! Await Him (Isaiah 40:31)

Step 5 is the reason for our praying. Give God room to answer in His own time and way.

Delays are not denials. They allow time for God to do five important things:

1. Change us.
2. Change circumstances.
3. Win spiritual battles.
4. Accomplish details that are related to our requests.
5. Provide greater answers than we expected. (e.g., John 11:21-23)

Personal Reflection

What steps on the Ladder of Faith could help I grow stronger in faith?

Why do people often need to redevelop faith, even after God does mighty works?

Practical Step

Identify your present position on the faith ladder and indicate the concept of God you need to explore. Review the Scriptures given for your level and what ways you will take for the prescribed action step.

Prayerful Response

Lord God, I want to grow in my faith. I confess and repent of my unbelief. Thank You for educating me. Teach me the truths I need to learn about You. Strengthen me to practice the action steps I am learning. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen
